For this beer review I am looking at a limited release from 21st Amendment brewing. This is a unique style of beer known as an Oyster Stout. This style combines oyster shells with a higher alcohol stout, giving a unique flavor that is definitely not what you expect. Let’s check out 21st Amendment’s Marooned On Hog Island Oyster Stout.

Overall, this is a very good and unique beer. The addition of oyster shells to this stout gives a unique flavor that isn’t overpowering. The slight saltiness gives this a very unique taste. This beer is a collaboration brew with Hog Island Oyster Company, using their shells to add a saltiness to the stout that holds true to the oyster stout style.

Craft Beer Academy Score (out of 10) – 7
I gave this beer a 7 out of 10 because it’s a definitely good stout, but I’m not the biggest fan of this style. I think it’s a good representation of the style, but I think slightly more hops would help me to like this a little more. The mouthfeel of this beer is a little smoother than a normal stout, and the carbonation seems a little bit creamier as well. I think this does add to the beer overall, and helps to mask the higher alcohol content of this beer, which is balanced nicely with the overall taste and aroma. I’d recommend trying this beer, as I am sure fans of other oyster stouts will definitely like it.
